Artist's Comments

Done for school.

The first time I've actually done a whole piece as a painting instead of just colouring line art. For the most part, I'm extremely pleased iwth the whole thing. I would have liked to put some white buildings in the background, but I really just didn't have any time for it.

I've always wanted to do something with a giant monster but this is the first time actually attempting it. Chalimaenger (originally: Chalimander) was one of the main characters in a dream I had. She was a queen with oracle-like powers.

Enjoy. And as always, comments are much appreciated--especially critiques since this is my first real (digital) painting.

Edit:
I've put a close-up of Chalimaenger and her servants in my scraps. You can find it here: [link]

Also, for those of you wondering: no, the monster is not, in any way, upside down. The eyeball is where it is because its species is so massive that it simply has no reason to ever look up, and has evolved thusly.

This is really good, especially the textures you put in, and the smaller details

That is some awesome epic fantasy stuff.

That upside-down manatee thing freaks me the hell out.

First off - incredible job. This is different than anything else I've ever seen you do. Just a couple things that might seem a little crazy and can probably be chalked up to me seeing things...

Regarding the Queen's red shelter(?), there appears to be a bit of aliasing. Perhaps due to selecting the blank space around the subjects and then creating a background?

The second weird/nit-picky thing involves the mutated manatee's shell/saddle. It gives off the illusion of being see-through where the outline of the creature's back intercepts it. That's probably what you wanted, but just in case, I thought I'd point it out.

The textures and composition are interesting (yay!), and I'm wild about the colors. ^_^ It's amazing how with this whole funky piece my eye keeps fixating on the queen and the... other little dude.

You manage to show case the size and shapes pretty well! .my only 2 cents will be to increase the volume on the round shapes...and blur a bit more the Bg so the distance get's to read best! ;)
